Ordering Gent Replacement Parts: What to Check Before You Buy
Short answer: order by the full part number on the device label, confirm the panel model and loop card, and remember S4 heads come without a base. If you're changing device type rather than swapping like-for-like, check panel compatibility and loop loading first.
1. Read the full part number off the device
Gent S4 (S-Quad) detector heads all share one base, so different devices can look almost identical from the floor. The part number tells you exactly what's fitted:
- S4-715 — optical smoke detector
- S4-720 — heat detector
- S4-711 — dual optical heat multi-sensor
- S4-901 — CO, dual optical and heat multi-sensor
Suffixes add alarm functions to the same head: -S sounder, -V voice sounder, and -VAD visual alarm device (for example S4-770-S, S4-711-V or S4-711-V-VAD-HPR). Order the exact code — not a best match by appearance.
2. Identify the panel and loop card
Note the panel model — for example Vigilon Plus (VIGPLUS-24), Vigilon Plus (VIGPLUS-72), Vigilon Compact Plus or Nano (NANO-24) — and the loop card fitted, such as the VIG-LPC-EN. If the panel's software version is in the logbook or on the status screen, note that too. On older systems, this is what decides whether a newer device will work.
3. Check the base
All S4 heads fit the S4-700 common base. Replacing a head only? Your existing base normally stays. On new installs or where a base is damaged, order bases separately — heads are supplied without one.
4. Like-for-like or upgrade?
A same-part-number swap is the lowest-risk option. If the original is superseded, or you're moving to a combined head with sounder, voice or VAD, check panel compatibility and loop loading first. Record the change in the system logbook as BS 5839-1 requires.
5. Fit new, genuine parts
Used or grey-market heads may be cheaper, but they come with no warranty, traceability or known service history. See why genuine parts matter. Everything we supply is new, genuine stock from Honeywell-authorised distribution.

Frequently asked questions
Do Gent S4 detector heads come with a base?
No. S4 heads are supplied without a base. They all fit the S4-700 common base, which is ordered separately.
Can I replace an S4-711 with an S4-711-V voice sounder version?
Often, yes, as both fit the same base — but a combined head adds load to the loop and must be supported by the panel configuration. Check loop loading and panel compatibility, and record the change in the logbook.
What do the -S, -V and -VAD suffixes mean on Gent parts?
-S is an integrated sounder, -V is an integrated voice sounder, and -VAD adds a visual alarm device. HPR/HPW and LPR indicate high- or standard-power VADs in red or white.
Will Gent S4 devices work on other manufacturers' panels?
No. Gent S4 loop devices only work on Gent panels. If you're not sure what's installed, send us the panel model and we'll confirm the right part.
How quickly will my Gent parts be dispatched?
Stocked lines are dispatched the same day on orders placed before 2pm. Items we order in from Honeywell typically dispatch within 3–5 working days.
Are prices shown with VAT?
No. Prices are shown ex VAT, VAT is added at checkout, and every order comes with a VAT invoice.
